Kelly Slater Digital Tattoo

Found these images online today of living surf legend, Kelly Slater. These images are done by Alberto Seveso, an artist from the UK. Maybe he can leave a comment below and describe what this is all about. Looks pretty insane though. Nice work Alberto.

Kelly Slater Seshn at Lower Trestles

Surfing’s great ambassador Kelly Slater stopped for a few shots with a couple of stoked local groms down at Lower Trestles the other day. Could this guy get any better for the sport of surfing? Honestly, what Kelly has done has been out of this world and it’s sad to think that he is getting older and won’t be the “same Kelly” for too much longer. Regardless, Slater is the man and if you think he is whack, you really have issues to deal with.
Here are some shots from Kelly’s seshn:

Kelly Slater and Emil Kozak get cute!

I came across this today and just had to post it. It seems that surf great, Kelly Slater and artist, Emil Kozak have collabo’d to bring you two very cute surfboards, that could make you look very ‘festive’ in the water. Now it’s obvious that surfboards are on the brink of a huge shift in design and style, and you will see more and more boards popping up next year that emulate skateboards. We just posted a blog about Super Surfboards and what they are doing, and it’s great but if art on surfboards is going to be looking this cutesy, they are going to have to send me some matching wrapping paper to go with it. I am really hoping we don’t see Kelly using these in the water.

Kelly Slater Scores Perfect 10 Down at Globe Pro Fiji

Kelly Slater came out striking on day one of the Globe Pro Fiji, scoring a perfect 10 to cap an amazing first day in the South Pacific. Reportedly the waves have been next to perfect measuring in at a close 6 feet at Restaurants. Currently ranked No. 1, Slater took over round one with a first round score of 19.73 out of 20.00, proving once again why he is in the number one spot. But the question that is on alot of peoples minds is, can Kelly keep this up after having a near perfect first round? That remains to be seen, but Slater fans can only hope so.
“I wanted to get a quick start because it was kind of slow in the heats before mine so I started off with a 7.8,” Slater said. “That wasn’t a bad score for what was out there earlier, but set after set just kept getting better and better. One set had eight waves in it. There was definitely no shortage of waves and no hassling so it was a special heat, you don’t get too many heats like that on tour.”
After finishing 17th last week in Tahiti, Slater rose to the occasion and came out firing early.  Stay tuned as we bring you more coverage of the Globe Pro Fiji.

Kelly Slater Wins Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach!

Kelly Slater is an amazing human being. The guy wasn’t even going to compete in this contest, but he ends up winning the thing. We don’t have much details at this point other than I think Slater is an alien. For realsies.

Rip Curl Pro Update: Dane Reynolds is kicking some ass!

With so much hype around the Kelly Slater story, people have taken their attention off some of the other smaller-name guys competing as well. One of them being, 22 year old Dane Reynolds. Reynolds was boosting 9’s all day and his highest wave score came it at a 9.73 out of 10! That was the highest of the day.
Dane had this to say about the 9.73 score, “That (9.73) was just a perfect clean face,” Reynolds said. “I would have had to really blow it to not get a score. I basically connected the dots, I didn’t do anything too ridiculous, but that is all it took.”
Dane will be up against CJ Hobgood in round 3… Stay tuned for coverage soon here on Seshn. In the meantime, check out the rest of the scores and round 3’s matchups:

Kelly Slater Ready for Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach

So basically to sum up what is going on with Kelly Slater right now is… Yes he has made up his mind to compete in the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach. See the thing is, Kelly wasn’t going to compete at first and withdrew from the event late last week. As expected, many were bummed on Slater’s decision.
Kelly then got online and noticed how bummed people were and in his own words, he had this to say about the situation, ”A combination of things influenced my decision to come to Bells. I had called ASP Tour Manager Renato Hickel to ask to be officially taken out of the event and that is when he asked me if I had seen the swell forecast.”

So the swell looks good, Slater is happy, what more could you want? It’s on!

ASP World Tour, Quik Pro

The ASP World Tour first event of the 2008 season has wrapped up on the Gold Coast of Australia. The Quik Pro saw a sketchy start with days of flatness and the contest on hold for many days of the event. As some may know, the first round of an event on the WCT sends the 2nd and 3rd place surfers to the second round, while the 1st place surfer is sent to the third round automatically. Then the surfers have to duke it out in the fourth round, quarter final, and semi final, hoping to make it to the final, which holds $30,000 for first place, and $16,000 for second. The semi final of the Quik Pro saw the first heat with Bede Durbidge and Mick Fanning, both Australian locals. It was an extremely close heat with Bede finishing second with a total of 16.67 points, and Mick Fanning winning the heat with a 17.23. The second heat of the semi finals held Jeremy Flores against Kelly Slater, 8 time world champion. The heat was a nail-biter with Jeremy almost ousting out the world champ with a 15.17 but ended second to Slater’s 15.47.Jeremy FloresThe final of the Quiksilver Pro saw reeling pointbreak surf and two amazing competitors, Mick Fanning against Kelly Slater. Slater got just the waves he needed to upset the local favorite, but the final was a close one, with Mick Fanning in 2nd place with a 15.23 and Kelly Slater with a 17.94.Kelly Slater in the FinalMick Fanning with his signature lightning fast cutback. The next event on the World Championship Tour is the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach, Australia on March 18-29, 2008.
